I’ve heard them on CD, I’ve watched them on tv, I’ve seen them on VCD and DVD, but tonight was my first(of many more to come in the hopeful future)time to a Mayday concert, and the first time I’ve seen them live in person! Words really can’t describe the night that was the Melbourne Australia stop for Mayday’s DNA World Tour 09! A memory that will last a life time!
After reading several articles and blogs regarding their first stop in HK, I half expected Mayday to start off the performance with Hosee, but they welcomed the Melbourne crowd with another of their legendary taiwanese classics ‘軋車’. They performed an array of songs new and old from including 春天的吶喊, Hosee, 瘋狂世界, 人生海海, 你不是真正的快樂, 我心中尚未崩壞的地方, 夜訪吸血鬼, 笑忘歌, 生存以上生活以下, 叫我第一名, 離開地球表面, 雌雄同體, 賭神, 孫悟空, 約翰藍儂, 天使, 最重要的小事, 知足, and their new song DNA. (NB: They weren’t played in that order, I just went down my iTunes list and picked out the ones that I could remember, so I think I may be missing a few, my apologies!)
Unfortunately I was seated in the furthest section(i.e. cheapest section-_-’), but fortunately we were at the second row of that area and were considerably close to the Guai Shou(left) end of the stage so the view was still excellent!

Customary Sea of Blue Stars
My apologies that I didn’t get any photos or vids but I was too busy jumping and screaming to whip out my camera, though then again my brick of a camera has a terrible night shot function, so I would’ve wound up with pixelated blurry shadows. But my friends did manage to snap a few with their phones, so I’ll post them when they forward them over. Again a big THANK YOU to Lucy, Anna and Alice for accompanying me despite their busy schedules with work and uni. THANK YOU GUYS!(=
Though our stage set up wasn’t as elaborate as the HK concert, which I didn’t expect it to be anyway, we still had our share of sparks, fireworks and streamers which was majorly awesome!
It was everything I had expected and more, but I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t get to sing 憨人 and 出頭天. I was really looking forward to those two songs, but their playlist was still awesome! They only played one of their new songs ‘DNA’, so I was disappointed that we missed out on 放肆, but perhaps they will play it in Sydney tomorrow night. Oh how I wish I could go to the Sydney one as well!
With their long playlist squished into their tiny time slot, there wasn’t much time left for talking but they did send out Guan You as their english rep. Though he only said one line in english, I can’t really recall it at this hour(I’m currently writing this at 2.50am!), but I can paraphrase it as “We’re very be happy to be here”.. I think.. Please do correct me if I am wrong, I really can’t remember! Curse this goldfish memory.. It was something along the lines of that, and here it is! Mayday’s Talking sequence in the Melbourne Concert. Thank you to siwen88 for posting that up!
Each member did their share of mind blowing solo’s and with a surprise I saw 周老師 in action! My friend was confused as to whether he was in the band lol so that was a funny side note.
Another disappointment was that they didn’t bring over any merchandise! I had been eager to get my hands on some DNA merchandise since I saw the HK concert tees on bloodbubbles blog(Thanks again for sharing bloodbubble!). So I guess I’ll have to wait for the official release on gogo-shopping.com.tw.
But the major let down.. the biggest problem I feel that applies to all Mayday concerts.. which I had expected to occur, but was still saddened by it.. was that when you are amongst the crowd of a Mayday concert.. TIME JUST FLIES! And in the blink of an eye, it is already the end of the night! Despite my sore arm, sore voice and tired feet, I knew I could jump, sing and scream forever for them! They are truly amazing!(=
Side note, in which I must apologise to my friend Alice and the other concert goers seated beside and around me, especially the girl on my right, my most sincerest apologies to you all for my bad singing! Actually at one point mid way through the concert, I realised I wasn’t singing but was actually screaming/shouting the lyrics to every song. *blushes* Sorry! And also, I think the fans to my right and behind us were planning to enjoy a nice seated concert to fully relish the true beauty of Mayday’s music, but their experience was probably tainted by my ear-splitting off key “scream-singing”, and my obnoxious constant bopping silhouette blocking their view of the stage. A very sincere sorry to you all!
I was grateful that though we were in the back section, the atmosphere was still as high! There was a bit of hesitation at the beginning to stand up because everyone was comfortably seated, but a few songs in most of us were standing and bopping. I began jumping during 離開地球表面 but decided against it after I missed a step and almost went tumbling into the guy in the row in front of me. So I stuck with highly enthused bopping for the rest of the concert.(=
They finished off with one of my favourites 倔強 and returned with an encore of two songs 戀愛Ing(How could they omit that?!) and 溫柔. After reading about the 10 minute cheering for encore performances in the HK concert, I was saddened by the lack of enthusiasm in our encore chants, I wanted to keep shouting but our sections’ crowd had fallen rather silent and so the butterfly effect would take effect and everyone would hush, but then it would pick up again, though it was weaker than I had expected, unfortunately. I still believe we could’ve squeezed in another encore song if we had the noise, but I guess the staff would’ve had to start packing up straight away seeing as they have to move everything to Sydney by tomorrow night, sigh.
Which also reminds me! A great pat on the back for all the concert staff and Mayday because looking at Ashin today was really heart wrenching! He looked as if he hadn’t slept in days! Majorly exhausted as with the other members, but Ashin’s panda eyes were most evident! Work is important but don’t exert yourselves too much! 身體要緊喔! Health comes first guys!
They did the usual conducting of the L-O-V-E chants during the 戀愛Ing encore, where they did some funny gestures. Naturally, Guai Shou was the conductor for our left side, and we began with L and at first we thought we were going to chant the whole word, but it turned our we were just supposed to do the ‘L’ so we all had a bit of a laugh about our blooper!
After the encore they began distributing(or throwing I guess) guitar picks and merchandise to the front crowds in the VIP section. Oh how I envied them! Guan you threw he’s drumsticks and at one point I saw Guai Shou’s ji shi(Sorry I’m unfamiliar with the new ji shi tuan!) pass him his guitar in suggestion to throw it into the crowd, it was a cute moment!
Wow, it’s 3.27am, and I’ve got an 8am wake up call for work tomorrow so I think I’d better stop here. I could rant forever about this extraordinary night, but I think even if were to I write on nobody would be interested to read on lol, so I shall leave it as this. So if you are still reading this, thank you for putting up with my rambling, and to those who did stop reading half way, thank you too for taking interest in visiting my blog. I’ve never been very well at articulating my thoughts very eloquently but I shall say that though this night is just ending, I also see it as a beginning to what will be a lasting tradition, that no matter how busy I may be, how far it may be, how many expenses it will incur, I will make it my best effort to attend a Mayday concert every second year they are on tour! 五月天萬歲!(=

Thank you for sharing your experience – I enjoyed reading it
First up, ‘ga cia’ was the opening song for the HK shows as well. They didn’t sing Gong Lang and Chu Tou Tian?? Those were the encore songs. I guess they had a shorter encore in Melbourne (u guys should’ve demanded for a longer encore LOL)
Awww they didn’t sing “Fang Si”?? Did they dance?
And no merchandise…?!! Maybe they weren’t too sure if it’d sell well down under so they didn’t bring the merchandise there

Hmm, then where did I read about Hosee? Or maybe I just imagined it lol(= But yes! I reckon if we had more noise we could’ve earned a longer encore!! But people began to disperse, and I was like ‘NOOO!!!’ So twas a bit of a let down)= I think maybe because it was a Thursday night, so most people had work and uni today, and also because most public transport usually stops before midnight.. BUT STILL! The concert ended around 10.50pm.. Even though I had work today, I would’ve stayed all night if it I could’ve!! (Like that seven hour new year performance they did once? I forget when it was! P= Or did I just imagine that as well.. I’m working with 4 hours of sleep right now..=_=;)
Yeah unfortunately no “Fang Shi” but they showed the dancing clip at the end at the beginning of the encore! LOL I’m rewatching the TKZC vcd at the moment, and I must say they have improved at least! Hosee dance haha(=
And no merchandise! I was super bummed, but I half expected it as you said, sigh. They did bring some tape to throw out at the crowd to do that tug of war thing, but alas no merchandise stall)= And so I’m thinking I might have to wait till after Taipei before official release on gogorock! Cries!)=
But it was still AMAZING!!! Words cannot describe how AWESOME it was!! I wasn’t sore when I woke up this morning, but mid day through work, I got up to reach for a file on the tallest shelf and my RIGHT SHOULDER!! The muscles around my shoulder!! They are killing me at the moment! So I can barely lift my arm over my shoulder LOL(= Post DNA Fever?!

My very first Mayday concert too! I live in London so I was very lucky to make it for the DNA concert in Singapore.
They performed for two nights, and both nights from 8pm til past midnight!!!
I can’t remember how many encores they did coz everytime they left the stage, the fans went CRAZY with the encores. I guess they have a sizeable fan base in Singapore so that was possible!
Ahhhh… the lighting and lazer beams were absolutely awesome
And after the audience saw the dancing video, everyone started chanting “tiao wu”, but too bad we didn’t succeed (although I heard that they did in the HK one).
I’m having PMS now (post-mayday syndrome), still feeling excited yet incredibly sad that the concert I had been waiting for so long for is now all over
but the 4 hours of raw energy still pumping in my blood!

Hehe, I had ‘PMS’ for quite a while after Melbourne DNA as well, but unfortunately it has worn off.. But I can still feel the buzz from you!
It wasn’t as buzzed up during the encore/end of the Melbourne show, so I’m hoping to travel to SG or HK (if I can!) the next time I attend their concert! I think those 2 are my closest alternatives, plus KL, if they decide not to return to Oz during their next tour)=..
But a pleasure to hear your recount! I was a fool to think that only one single Mayday concert could ever quench my thirst for Mayday! So perhaps I may see you next time when they tour SG?!(=
Also thanks for visiting my blog!(=
